Dhanaulti - Eco Tourism Park.

       Introduction: Nestled amidst the thick alpine, Oak and rhododendron forests in he misty mountains off Mussoorie, forests in the misty mountains off Mussoorie, Dhanaulti is perched atop the mountains at an altitude of 7500 feet above sea level. Located a mere thirty five kilometers from Mussoorie, this quaint little hill station beckons the tourists to a world of absolute tranquility, serenity and pure bliss, which is a little difficult to find in Mussorie, as it is becoming increasingly more crowded.

      The major attraction of Dhanaulti are two nature-friendly Eco-parks known as 'Amber' and 'Dhara'. Developed with the assistance of the local youth by the Forest Department of Uttarakhand, the two eco-parks are lined with luxuriantly grown deodar trees. Absolutely great places to while away one's time far away from all the cacophony and noise, the Eco-parks command stunningly panoramic views of the majestic shivalik ranges of the Himalayas. Local guides are readily available to assist the rourist in exploring the parks. If one looking for quiet, peace and solitude, the two eco-parks at Dhanaulti are ideal places to be in. One can opt for the eco-huts that are run by the Forest department. On a clear, bright, dloudless, sunny day, one can expect to be spellbound by the magnificent and panoramic view of the snow capped Nandadevi Range. One should ensure to make full use of the brief sunny moments as most part of the day, especially the later half, is usually covered with fog. The tranquility of the eco-parks can be overwhelming. In fact, the atmosphere can be so calm that it will make you feel like being able to hear the sounds of the passing fogs, gently caressing the leaves of the alpine trees.

         The gently rays of the sun of the passing fogs fill the entire garden area with a heavenly bluish tone. The lush green gardens have many bamboo-fenced trails. Walking through these trails in the midst of dense alpine forest can also create an out-of-the - world feeling. It is also an absolute pleasure to hear the chirping of many a himalayan bird like chirping of many a himalayan bird like Grey-capped pygmy woodpecker, tong-tailed Minivet, Mountain Finch, Blue-capped redstart, Laughing thrush and many more.

     Traveler's Fact File: 1) Dhanaulti is located in Tehri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand at an altitude of 2286 meters, only 24 Km from Mussoorie. 2) Apart from eco-parks, the surkanda Devi temple is a popular pilgrimage for Hindus and lies on the Dhanaulti to chamba route. The town is also famous for its large potato farms where tourists can take a walk or do horse riding.
3) Summers (April - June) are the most ideal time. Winter is very cold and during monsoon also temperature marks a steep fall. 4) Jolly Grant Airport (82 Km) near Dehradun is the nearest airport. The airport is mainly connected with Delhi and Mumbai. 5) The railway station in Dehradun is the nearest railway station and there are regular trains from all around the country including superfast Shatabdi trains. From Dehradun one can take taxis and the journey is through scenic landscape. 6) Dhanaulti has a major bus station, and buses ply here from the cities of Dehradun, Mussoorie, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Roorkee and Nainital. Buses from major cities like Chandigarh and Delhi are available to nearby Mussoorie, from where buses to Dhanaulti can be easily availed. There are normal as well as air-conditional buses available. 7) Dhanaulti does not have sufficient good places to eat and so it is better to have food at the hotel guests are staying in. 8) For higher budget, one can opt for three-star Hotel Drive inn. Another option, a little cheaper is the Hotel Crown Plaza, around the same area.
